Ross and Brand up for comedy awards

Both Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand have been nominated in this year’s British Comedy Awards.

Ross, who was originally meant to hosting the show, has been nominated for Best Comedy Entertainment Programme for Friday Night With Jonathan Ross.

His BBC1 show will be up against ITV’s Harry Hill’s TV Burp and Channel 4’s The Sunday Night Project.

Despite having presented the awards for 17 years, Ross mutually agreed with ITV to step down from hosting duties shortly after the Sachsgate scandal. A replacement presenter has yet to be announced for the ceremony, to be held on 6 December.

Stephen Fry was approached to fill the hole but turned it down last week. It’s likely an announcement will be made in the coming days.

Brand has been nominated for Best Live Stand-Up Performer. He’s going to be fighting off Alan Carr and Michael McIntyre to get the elusive gong.

It’ll be an interesting night if either or both of the comedians win. We’re certain Ross will be on his best behaviour because he’s clearly trying to make amends and get his life back to normal.

However, we’ll be very surprised if Brand isn’t splattered across the Daily Mail’s front page the morning after…
